Smart private 5G corporate solutions add value to vertical industrial applications

albis-elcon, CampusGenius and Smart Systems Hub, together with Saxony Trade & Invest present an open RAN private 5G network as end-to-end solution for the industry at the IEEE 6G Summit.

Dresden, 3 May 2023

How smart 5G solutions for companies create added value and benefits for vertical industrial applications through the successful bundling of cross-industry knowledge, is shown by the industrial network formed by albis-elcon, CampusGenius and Smart Systems Hub with the support of the Saxony Trade & Invest (WFS) at the IEEE 6G Summit on May 10, 2023 in Dresden. The joint presentation will show an industry application based on an OPEN RAN private 5G wireless network.

Last few years have proven that 5G is now established as an available standard. The number of private 5G networks is increasingly rising and represents an enormous growth market for the industry.

The next, sixth generation of mobile communication is also already under review – a development with focus and the next logical step.

As a use case the power of private 5G networks enables smart agriculture and helps improve crop yields, reduce costs optimizing fertilizer and minimize environmental impact. A private 5G network is designed to provide reliable, low-latency connectivity for real-time monitoring of fields and livestock, automated machinery and devices even including drones. In addition to providing enhanced security for critical data, the private 5G Network solution of
albis-elcon system Germany GmbH contributes to energy efficency and sustainability in the agricultural industry.

With deep technical expertise in private 5G networks, CampusGenius GmbH is the partner for the base technology. With a mmWave-based new radio dual connectivity (NR-DC) 5G setup, the Dresden-based start-up demonstrates the bandwidths that are already possible today in combination with the 26GHz band.

At the 6G Summit, the 5G Opera project partners coordinated by the Smart Systems Hub GmbH present initial results and introduce a jointly developed demonstrator. This is an end-to-end solution of an open 5G RAN system with fully virtualized core network functions, as well as fully virtualized distributed unit and central unit running on general purpose servers.
A commercial 5G module or smartphone establishes an IP connection to an edge cloud. The demonstrator at the booth shows the interoperability of different components, which is realized via interfaces standardized by 3GPP and the O-RAN Alliance. This represents an important milestone in the provision of stand-alone and open solutions for the deployment of non-public 5G networks.

The Wirtschaftsförderung Sachsen GmbH (Saxony Trade & Invest) has been supporting the 6G Summit, formerly 5G Summit Dresden, for many years as an important element of the digital value chain in hardware-software connectivity. Saxony is the only location in Germany to offer all three elements in solid form, from research over chip design and manufacturing to B2B solutions. The strengthening of each individual element creates growth guarantees and is also to be further developed in the direction of new, secure human-centric applications such as home robotics or medical, agricultural, or building technology.
