Vive la Fibre with the Ethernet Router EAD 1000 NG

The French network operator K-Net orders 2,500 units of the Ethernet router EAD 1000 NG for the FTTH rollout in several areas of France – from Deauville in Normandy to Nancy in Eastern France. K-Net employs the EAD 1000 NG as a platform to offer ultra-fast fibre packages with symmetrical speeds of up to 1 Gbit/s and Layer 4 services.

Choosing the right partner and a smart router for the FTTH rollout K-Net was looking into design, performance and management features. Ludivine Loizillon-Pillie, COO at K-Net: “K-Net strives for superior solutions that can deliver an outstanding experience to its customers in France. albis-elcon’s EAD 1000 NG has a powerful multicore architecture which allows us to offer Layer 4 services, e. g. IPTV, home automation, VoIP, VPN, or cloud – all in one device and with the highest comfort for the customer. On the other hand, EAD 1000 NG has an appealing, space-efficient design that convinced us.”

A crucial factor for K-Net is the state of the art 802.11ac dual-band Wi-Fi of the EAD 1000 NG. The router operates with the 2×2 MIMO method per 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz band delivering a stable Wi-Fi connection to a great number of users, improving network coverage and increasing the bandwidth per user. “The EAD 1000 NG addresses the growing demand for fast and stable wireless networking. We can cover both, residential and small business scenarios, with one device and answer customer’s needs right away”, explains Ludivine Loizillon-Pillie.

K-Net uses an optical termination unit to convert the optical signal of the fibre cable to an electrical signal of the Ethernet router. The EAD 1000 NG ensures that the platform is always ready to process complex tasks and services. With the support of various management protocols, including TR-069, K-Net can swiftly configure, provision and upgrade the customer’s package and integrate the device in its CRM system.

Since 2001 K-Net has expanded its commercial area progressively. The EAD 1000 NG enables K-Net to provide future-proof fibre access to households and businesses across France. Today, more than 10,000 subscribers rely on the operator’s triple play packages with ultra-fast symmetrical Internet access from 100 Mbit/s to 1 Gbit/s.
